What is a Health Coach?

You may have heard the term ‘health coach’ popping up in nutritional circles and appearing randomly in magazine articles and on TV. However, I often find when I tell someone that I’m a health coach, they have absolutely no idea what I’m talking about. Health and wellness coaches work with doctor’s offices, spas, gyms and private practices all over the country. We often offer services and fill the gaps that doctors and dietitians don’t have the time or resources to fill.

Certified health and wellness coaches partner with clients seeking to enhance their well-being through self-directed, lasting changes, aligned with their values. In the course of their work, health and wellness coaches display an unconditional positive regard for their clients and a belief in their capacity for change, honoring the fact that each client is an expert on their own life, while ensuring that all interactions are respectful and non-judgmental.

What can I expect at an appointment?

Health coaching will help you create goals for improved wellness providing accountability and support for achieving these goals. Individual appointments are between 30-60 minutes and group coaching sessions are 75-90 minutes.

What happens if I’m a new patient?

You will have your own dedicated health coach working with you and providing individualized recommendations and guidance. We get to the root cause of your health concerns with our healing-from-the-inside-out approach.

Do you work with people who experience seizures?

Yes, I empower children, teens, adults and seniors to set goals, develop healthy eating, safe movement and positive habits. They learn Epilepsy self-management, self-efficacy and self-care in an environment that is safe and that supports their personal growth and development, helping them thrive and live as best as they possibly can. I'm also a Seizure First Aid trainer, group facilitator for PACES (Program of Active Consumer Engagement in Self-management in Epilepsy), and a brain health professional so I work with people to improve their memory.

What happens if I need a prescription?

We don’t prescribe or diagnose, but we can refer you to a few doctors or specialists so you can choose which one fits your needs best.

What kind of payments are accepted? Do you accept my insurance?

This will be a case by case basis. We do accept Flexible Savings Account (FSA) and Health Savings Account (HSA). In 2019, the American Medical Association granted category III CPT codes for health and wellness coaching.
